Salary: $3,300 (food and housing included)

 

Beam is a summer camp in Strafford, NH that focuses on skill-building, collaborative challenge, responsibility and mentorship.  Campers ages 10-17 collaborate on a spectacular project, which helps kids explore what it means to make things with their own bodies and brains and how that kind of creativity is relevant and applicable to everything in their lives. They transform ideas into artifacts and personal achievement into community success. They also have a lot of fun.

 

Beam has two lakes and sits within a 750 acre conservation reserve of mountain and forest. Among Beam’s resources are a well-equipped fabrication wood shop, digital lab,  art/ceramics studio, basketball court, two large athletic fields and outdoor fire pit.

 

Job Description

Beam Camp seeks practicing artists/makers to work collaboratively with Program director to design and deliver workshops and lead projects in the Beam Fundamentals for kids aged 10-17, and to be an active participant in Beam Camp’s unique summer community of fun and learning. The job requires grace under pressure, good humor and an interest in providing children with valuable experiences in creativity, craft and community. The Beam Fundamentals are:

    • Project & Building: construction, carpentry, metal work, project planning

 

  • Computing & Electronics: circuitry, physical computing, coding

 

  • Design & Prototyping: model-making, design thinking, digital fabrication

  • Craft & Materials: ceramics, fiber & textiles, printmaking

Specialists also participate in the execution of the Beam Project, and guide campers in designing, developing, and making their own projects in the Independent Work program area; both the Project and Independent Work involve application of skills learned and/or practiced in the Fundamentals.

 

Qualifications

Applicants should have: facility, confidence, and a high level of proficiency in at least one of the Fundamentals; professional work experience in some capacity with that Fundamental; experience managing people; experience teaching or working with kids.
