We are looking to add some up and coming talent to the mix and are looking to provide a few people with some really valuable mentoring and experience. 

  • We are looking for Front-End Engineers, Interaction Designers & Visual Designers (& potentially hybrid skills in Service Design) for the fall.

FRONT END DEVELOPMENT, INTERN
JOB DESCRIPTION
Sequence (www.sequence.com) is an experience design agency with offices in San Francisco
and New York. We envision, design and build brands, products and experiences that innovate
and disrupt. Our work includes brand and storytelling, digital products, and service design. We
work with a diverse range of companies who are striving to change the world— so we never
have a shortage of complex, interesting problems to solve.
This role is part of a small internal technical team, reporting in to the Director of Technology
(DoT). You will be responsible for building and supporting a wide range of web and mobile sites
and applications using HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and contributing to technical design,
implementation, and testing. This is a highly collaborative role, working closely with the creative,
interaction design and project management teams.
Interns are expected to display the same flexibility, communication and initiative as our regular
employees.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
TECHNICAL
• Work directly with the design team and back-end development team to implement mockups
and integrate with the back-end stack
• Understanding of responsive vs. adaptive design principles
• Fluent in valid, standards-compliant, accessible, cross-browser HTML/CSS
• Familiar with CSS pre-processors such as LESS and Sass
• Experience with modern object-oriented JavaScript and familiarity with JS frameworks
(JQuery, Ember, Angular, Knockout, Backbone)
• Experience with front-end unit testing (Jasmine, Cucumber, or similar)
• Familiar with Compass, Foundation, Bootstrap
• Investigate new web technologies and strive to keep our team on modern, powerful tools
• Maintain high coding standards and practices, exercising quality control on all aspects of
development
QUALIFICATIONS:
• 3rd or 4th year student, with previous co-op experience
• Links to code: portfolio site, Github, Bitbucket, etc
• Strong verbal and written communication and a “flexible responsiveness” that allows you to
quickly jump into a new situation and show your positive, action-oriented attitude
• Prior exposure to a design agency (as an intern or employee) is preferred
• Additional (demonstrated) skills in User Experience or Interaction Design are a bonus

DESIGN INTERN

development. We work with a diverse range of companies who are striving to change the world— so
we never have a shortage of complex, interesting problems to solve.
We are looking for a passionate and pragmatic visual design intern who is eager to learn and
contribute as a member of our creative team.
Start date is flexible depending on summer schedule and typically offered at between 10-12 weeks
fulltime hours (40/week). We are offering internships in either office location (SF or NYC). This is a
paid internship.
RESPONSIBILITIES
You will work on internal and client projects as needed and with members of diverse teams, including,
for example: visual design, strategy, interaction design and development. We will assign a design
mentor, but, as the only intern in our creative department, you’ll be expected to display the same
flexibility, communication and initiative as our regular employees.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Student, going in to 3rd or 4th year, ideally with an area of focus selected at the time of application
• Thorough knowledge or Macintosh based design programs
• A portfolio, demonstrating brand system and user interface design, must be submitted for
consideration
• Strong verbal and written communication and a “flexible responsiveness” that allows you to quickly
jump into a new situation and show your positive, action-oriented attitude
• Prior exposure to a design agency (as an intern or employee) is preferred
• Additional (demonstrated) skills in motion graphics, illustration, user-experience and strategy are a
bonus

INTERACTION DESIGN (IXD) INTERN

We are looking for a passionate and pragmatic interaction design intern who is eager to learn and
contribute as a member of our IxD team.
Start date is flexible depending on summer schedule and typically offered at between 10-12 weeks at
fulltime (40/week) hours. We are offering internships in either office location (SF or NYC). This is a
paid internship.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibility of interaction design at Sequence is to ensure all experiences are as
intuitive, understandable and elegant. You will work on internal and client projects as needed and
with members of diverse teams, including, for example: visual design, strategy, interaction design and
development. We will assign a mentor to help with schedule and learning, but, as the only intern in
our IxD department, you’ll be expected to display the same flexibility, communication and initiative as
our regular employees.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Student, going in to 3rd or 4th year, ideally with an area of focus selected (HCI or design with a
focus on interaction) at the time of application
• Familiarity with presentation layer code and application layer design a plus
• Experience with quick prototyping for testing and client review using a variety of mediums,
from hand-sketching to open source mock-up tools.
• Experience conducting user research
• Strong verbal and written communication and a “flexible responsiveness” that allows you to
quickly jump into a new situation and show your positive, action-oriented attitude
• Prior exposure to a design agency (as an intern or employee) preferred
• Additional (demonstrated) skills or background in graphic design or technology are bonus
• A portfolio, demonstrating process, must be submitted for consideration
