Ralph Appelbaum Associates (RAA) is seeking a mid to senior-level Interaction Designer for their New York office. This is a full-time position for a motivated, skilled designer with expert-level user-experience knowledge and a solid foundation in interaction design. The Senior Interaction Designer knows his/her way around site-mapping, wireframing, drafting diagrams/charts, and designing unique digital interfaces for technologies such as touch-screen tables, interactive kiosks, websites, mobile apps etc. He/she is able to conceptualize and design elegant media solutions that answer client requests while satisfying and surprising the end user/exhibit visitor.

The perfect candidate is a creative, independent, and success-driven Interaction Designer who enjoys working on a variety of projects ranging from single-page websites to large environmental installations. He/she has a keen interest in media applications of the highest quality while working efficiently toward strict deadlines and he/she is not afraid of experimenting with/designing for new technologies.

RAA’s Senior Interaction Designer will work closely with content developers, producers, and programmers to lead a project from concept to implementation. Programming skills are not necessary, but a thorough understanding of the capabillities and limitations of code and up-to-date technologies is required.

Qualifications:

•       A minimum of 4 years of user interface design experience is required

•       Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Digital Media, or a related field

•       A compelling online portfolio or PDF showcasing UI and UX skills, creativity, and a great sense for colors and typography

•       Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)

•       Sketching skills (drafting diagrams and user flows charts, whiteboarding, etc.)

•       A strong understanding of current design trends and technologies

•       Must be able to work collaboratively and be team-oriented

•       Strong communication and organization skills

•       Prototyping/programming skills are a plus (HTML, Javascript, CSS, ActionScript/Flash, xCode, etc.)
