Computer Science Teacher
The Nightingale-Bamford School seeks a dynamic Computer Science teacher in Grades 5-12 as a short term replacement substitute for the 2016–2017 School Year. The successful candidate will work with the Director of Technology and Academic Technology Coordinator to execute established curriculum in courses that provide students with opportunities to engage with subject matter such as engineering, circuitry, 3D Design, Architecture, Coding and Design Thinking. These courses will be taught in our new, state-of-the-art MakerSpace, a place for problem solving, design, creativity and innovation for both students and faculty. In addition, the ideal candidate will also contribute to community life by participating in areas such as Makerspace Lab Supervision, Technology & Innovation Club, and other duties as assigned.
Interested Qualified candidates should be able towill have experience implementing existing curriculum and will teach courses that include but are not limited to: programming courses using JavaScript, Python and/or other modern programming languages; robotics and/or microcontroller programming courses based on Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or similar microcontroller platforms; engineering in a hands-on approach, 3D Design and printing (including laser cutting) using an architectural approach, and Design Thinking using the Ford Institute Method.
The Computer Science teacher will report to the Director of Technology and coordinate all efforts with the Associate Head of School when providing instructional and academic support to students in both physical and virtual learning spaces.
Qualifications:
A Master’s Degree (preferred) or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field and/or related field work experience.
- Experience teaching engineering, design, computer science and/or other STEM/STEAM courses at the Middle School, Upper School or University level.
- A love and enthusiasm for learning how to use new technology, making, fabrication, design thinking and tinkering.Knowledge of general technology, modern programming languages, Arduino/microcontrollers, Raspberry Pi, basic circuitry, 3D design software, 3D printing, laser cutting and the use of both power and hand tools.
- Familiarity with the design thinking process is a plus.
- A love and enthusiasm for learning how to use new technology, making, fabrication, design thinking and tinkering.
- A flexible, creative and collaborative work ethic.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
