Computer Science Teacher (Secondary School)

Lycée Français de New York

Reports to: Director of Digital Learning

Start Date: August 21, 2017

Purpose:

The Lycée Français is expanding its computer science program to support the teaching of problem-solving skills and computational thinking skills, as well as offering programming courses and interdisciplinary project-based courses.  The computer science teacher will guide the process of building curricula, teaching courses, and providing feedback for future directions of the program.

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following

  • Teaching middle school mandatory computer science courses

  • Teaching high school elective courses

  • Serving as an advisor for 8-12 students

  • Leading after-school activities in the area of computer science

  • Working closely with the math department to explore elements of the French math curriculum that focus on computer science skills

  • Collaborating with the maker integrator to develop ties among computer science, fabrication, and engineering.

Certification and Experience Requirements

  • Experience teaching computer science across many age groups

  • Coding expertise in multiple languages (Java, C++, Python, Swift, etc.)

  • Knowledge of the French and American educational systems preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degrees in a relevant field will also be taken into consideration
