INTERN: abroad in Uruguay, pcomp project

Internship Abroad in Uruguay (for students and/or alumni)

This opportunity consists of an internship (credits can be applied if applicable) in Montevideo, Uruguay working on a physical computing project for agricultural purposes.

The project consists of building a prototype for tracking cattle using RFID ear tags for the cattle, drones and Raspberry Pi, Arduino or whatever device fits the bill for the problem at hand. The problem is finding lost cattle in places where vegetation is dense with limited access.

This internship is meant to take place during the summer break, but both, timing and duration are flexible. The internship is divided into two phases:

Phase One
The initial phase will be in New York and will last one to two weeks. This phase will consist of brainstorming and documenting the solution for the project at hand. The outcome of the session will include a list of hardware and software that the project will require while it is executed abroad.

Phase Two
The second phase will take place in Montevideo, Uruguay immediately after phase one. This second phase will consist of actually building the IP and hardware prototype for the solution as well as testing it on premise (farms). The outcome of the second phase is:
  • a working prototype that can serve as proof that the solution can address the problem successfully
  • documentation of the solution
  • a presentation about the solution and its implementation

Candidates interested in this internship should be skilled in:
  • electrical engineering
  • programming
