VP, Design Research at Homer
Homer (learnwithhomer.com) is looking for a full time, highly creative and motivated VP of
Design Research to join our energetic, growing team!
You will have an immediate and visible impact on product initiatives that touch the lives of
children, parents and teachers across the globe. You’ll help create engaging experiences for
users and lead the growth of a talented research team. You will report directly to our Chief
Product Officer and work with Product Managers, Marketing, Engineering, and Content
Production teams to design and develop new features, functionality, and experiences for the
Homer platform.
Your responsibilities:
● Develop a thorough understanding of our users, their motivation, needs and pain points
through qualitative and quantitative studies (including field observations, interviews,
usability studies and surveys)
● Rapidly create user experience artifacts including functional specs, user flows,
wireframes, sitemaps, prototypes, and low-fidelity sketches
● Lead a team of researchers, UX designers, and UI designers to conceptualize usable,
valuable, consistent and intuitive user experiences across platforms and devices by
considering market context, industry and competitor trends, customer feedback, site
metrics, and usability
● Own the Customer Journey Map and Consumer Insights (both parent & child) efforts
across the company, including mapping the full funnel from awareness through
retention & referral
● Collaborate with other researchers, designers, product managers, data scientists,
marketing, and engineers to ensure research you deliver is integrated into every aspect
of the product and provides a holistic view of our users
● Create powerful ways to synthesize and communicate research insights and
recommendations
● Identify and explore new opportunities through creative research methods and
co-design sessions to help define product roadmaps, vision, and strategy
● Build empathy across the organization to improve the products we create for children
around the world and always champion for our users
You should have:
● 8+ yrs of professional experience in Interaction Product Design and User Research
● Lead a design team at a high-growth, consumer-facing company
● A bachelor’s degree in Design, Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction or related
field
● An online portfolio of working on iOS, Android, and web products that shows your
approach, thought process, insights, and clear communication style
● Experience in solving user problems with quantitative and qualitative research and
data, with a core belief in testing as a means of constant and iterative improvement
● Ability to manage multiple projects and team members and prioritize your roadmap
● A clean and strong design sense that values usability, simplicity and consistency
● Exceptional communication and presentation skills
● Exceptional organizational and analytical skills
● Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and prototyping tools
We prefer but don’t require:
● MS or PhD degree
● Experience with CSS/HTML and JavaScript
● Familiarity with a programming language commonly used for data manipulation and
computational statistics (such as Python, R, C++, or Java), and in SQL
● Experience conducting user testing with children
