technology roles to develop and support digital products and programs

Job/Internship Title:
Development Apprentice

Job/Internship Description:
A development apprenticeship with our team is an opportunity to grow
your expertise in creating public services to help improve the lives
of millions of New Yorkers. We are currently seeking individuals with
an interest in building optimal user experience, coding business logic
and designing robust enterprise applications.

Apprenticeships are paid by the hour, part-time or full-time, with a
minimum of three days per week. Summer 2018 Apprenticeships will run
from the beginning of June until the end of August. Projects will
focus on the delivery, on-going success, and continuous improvement of
government services.

If an internship, what specifically will an ITP student learn?:
Based on your skills and interests, responsibilities will include some
but not all of the below:

Help build a pattern library that can be used across the digital
products.

Prototype and test new product functionalities and enhancements with
the staff developers, product managers, and designers.

Help build automated front-end and back-end testing scripts to ensure
application functionality.

Help manage and enhance the back-end rules engine that powers the
ACCESS NYC benefit eligibility application.

Assist in migrating an enterprise application from on-premise to cloud
environment.

Required Skills:
Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS and JavaScript and/or server-side
programming language like Java, C#, .NET, Ruby, Python, PHP.

Familiarity with Content Management Systems like WordPress, Drupal,
etc.

Experience with relational databases and SQL queries.

Experience with Git, Github or other versioning systems.

Experience with development methodologies like Agile, SCRUM,
Waterfall, etc.

Interest and/or experience working with open source community.
