Position Summary

The Urban Future Lab (UFL) is New York City’s hub for smart cities, smart grid and clean energy. We house several programs focused on educational, policy and market solutions to the issues of sustainability and climate change. Our flagship program, ACRE, is a business incubator that supports the growth of early stage cleantech and smart city startups. The Graphic Designer creates marketing and communications deliverables, including pitch decks, newsletters, and website mockups. This includes leading the organizational design efforts, ensuring that UFL is well represented and achieving its overall organizational mission, and collaborating with tenant companies on design and marketing efforts. Additionally, the Graphic Designer will be managing the UFL website and designing any deliverables for the space and programs of UFL, including digital and print collateral.

Qualifications

Required Education:
Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in design-related discipline

Required Experience:
2-5+ years of experience working in the field. Candidate should also have experience in meeting client needs, and delivering projects on time.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical issues to different non-technical audiences. Ability to communicate clearly visually and verbally. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to work collaboratively on multi-disciplinary teams. Strong, user-focused visual design skills with an eye for detail. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate concisely and clearly through a variety of platforms. Organization and project management skills, with the ability to plan effectively, meet all deadlines, and coordinate others’ involvement within a dynamic and fast-paced setting. Motivated, proactive, and resourceful. Proficiency with design tools (Adobe Creative Suite, etc.) and MS Office. Knowledge of capabilities/limitations of current web technologies. Ability to create rapid UI prototypes with common modeling tools. Experience with HTML and email campaign software is desirable. Familiarity with user testing methodologies. Ability to assist with developing digital presentation strategies, sitemaps, wireframes, and user flows based on insightful data-driven decisions and good judgement. Ability to adapt to needs of companies at different stages of development and work across multi-disciplinary teams. Develop brand identities and strategic messaging.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Video production, editing, and motion graphics skills are a bonus. Passion for or background in cleantech and sustainability is a bonus.
