Assistant Professor, School of Media Arts

The School of Media Arts (http://www.umt.edu/mediaarts/) at the University of Montana seeks candidates for a full-time (1.0 FTE), tenure-track faculty position within Digital Arts and Technologies (DAT) beginning in August of 2018. This candidate will be a vital member of a program that is focused on the artistic and creative application of digital technologies. Candidates should demonstrate scholarly and/or artistic engagement in emerging media practices from a broad perspective. Expertise may include any of the following: programming for interactive art, game design, web-based art, physical computing, media art, immersive media (AR/VR), visual design, and performance media. The successful candidate will demonstrate achievement in media arts practices and contribute to our evolving undergraduate program by providing leadership and a creative approach to pedagogy.

Specific teaching assignments will be determined from the candidates’ strengths. The successful applicant will contribute to the school’s development of the BFA in Digital Arts and Technologies along with graduate curricula and online and blended learning environments. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to teach at the university-level and be open to and interested in working in both online and blended environments. The successful applicant will also contribute to research and creative work within their discipline and contribute service for the school, university, and community.

Required Qualifications
Requirements for the position include a Terminal Degree in a related area or other university degree with equivalent professional experience. We welcome applicants from areas such Media Arts, Art, Computer Science, Engineering, or Theater.

Additional requirements include:

*   A substantive record of scholarly and/or creative achievement
*   A strong commitment to teaching and an ability to develop student-centered learning experiences.
*   Demonstrated expertise in creative programming with tools such as Processing, P5.js, Open Frameworks, Isadora, or Max.
*   Demonstrated expertise in an interactive game creation engine, such as Unity, or Unreal Engine.
*   Demonstrated expertise in web technologies including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/node.js
*   Ability to design and build effective online learning environments

Preferred Skills

*   Expertise in the historical development of digital arts and technologies
*   Ability to adapt to/anticipate changes in relevant technologies; both hardware and software
*   Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff in a creative environment

The schools of Media Arts and Art, in collaboration with Computer Science, are building an innovative, forward-looking school of Digital Arts & Technologies that includes, digital art and tech, art, filmmaking, and sonic arts. This position will be pivotal in the development and collaboration of this new and exciting development.
