Responsibilities:

Parsons School for Design, a division of The New School, seeks a Full-time Technician in Media Resources. S/he should be a proactive, detail oriented individual who will become integral to the daily workings of the print output, animation, and motion capture studio(s), as well as other media resource related activity on campus, with the ability to learn new skills and technologies as needed. This is a fast paced dynamic environment that runs year round. The Technician will interface with students and faculty daily and work with Making Center staff to support multiple processes and resources for all users in a range of making spaces including the motion capture facility, animation studios, and the graphics lab. This is an administrative position, governed by a Local 1205 Teamsters union certification, that reports to the Associate Director of Media Resources in the Making Center.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Work with other Full-time technicians on the maintenance, installation and continuous operation of a variety of technologies(including, but not limited to, computers, tablets, displays, printers, and analog and digital still/video cameras).
Assist Facilities Manager and Associate Director, Media Resources as well as Facilities Manager Digital Fabrication and Associate Director, Systems by:
Assisting faculty and students
Leading demo sessions about various pieces of equipment
Making hardware/software purchase recommendations
Creating promotional material and web page content
Conducting tours for visitors and orientations for facilities users
Attend field related conferences, staying current with technology.
Attend regularly scheduled Making Center staff meetings
Oversee daily workings of the Motion Capture lab, animation stations and studios, and specialty printing output labs.
Supply application support for Adobe CC, Profiling, Motive (or other equivalent Motion Capture software), relevant CG and SFX software and SDKs.
Inventory and track facility supplies and equipment.
Troubleshoot all equipment including (but not limited to) that for print output, animation, photography and motion capture.
Manage equipment checkout for both in-lab use and off-site special requests.
Create clear, accurate, user-friendly technical documentation and instructions for all
equipment.
Assist in technology setup and installation for annual Parsons year-end exhibitions.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years professional experience with in the industry.
Flexible schedule- ability to work nights and weekends.
Knowledge of digital camera formats, copy stands, wacom technologies and various lighting equipment in regards to traditional and digital animation processes.
Technical knowledge of Motion Capture workspaces, MAC and PC computers, as well as Adobe CC, Profiling, Motive (or other equivalent Motion Capture software), relevant CG and SFX software and SDKs.
Full comprehensive experience with all digital printing output technologies, including but not limited to HP/Epson Large format, UV printing, film output (for screen printing as well as experimental photography processes) andRisograph Duplicator, and Piezography printers.
Experience with large-scale hardware and software deployments
Understanding of working in a cross-platform (Windows and macOS) environment
Understanding of CG, VFX and render pipelines preferred
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, close attention to detail, and strong organizational and time management abilities.
Proven track record of working well with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, professional training, and aesthetic sensibilities in a creative environment
Experience in and commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment supporting a diverse range of practices and backgrounds.
Strong ability to assist students working in an interdisciplinary manner from concept to fabrication.
Knowledge of Webcheckout a plus.
A desire to learn new skills and processes related to Parsons Making Center initiatives.
