Generation Citizen (GC) is an innovative, quickly scaling Action Civics education nonprofit that seeks to strengthen our nation’s democracy by empowering young people to become engaged and effective citizens. Generation Citizen believes all students have the right to civics education that prepares them to participate in our democracy. We envision a country of young people working as active and effective citizens to collectively rebuild our American democracy.

GC is seeking a passionate and driven individual with design research and innovation experience to support a national design research campaign that focuses on equity and youth civic engagement. We are launching a “Visioning Project” to identify the most promising factors that foster youth civic and political engagement, particularly among youth from historically marginalized communities, in order to support the development and improvement of civic education programs and expand the number of youth in all communities being prepared for effective citizenship. The Design Research Fellow will work closely with the Advocacy Director for a minimum of 15 hours per week to develop the strategy and plan for the project, and design and organize research including workshops, interviews, and research activities.

Design Research Fellow Responsibilities

●  Support strategy refinement and project planning for the Visioning Project

●  Contribute to the design of the research plan

●  Conduct outreach to potential collaborators and research participants

●  Develop materials for research execution, including but not limited to: workshop design and execution, research guides, research activities

●  Support the logistical coordination of research, as needed, and pull together insights

●  Other tasks as required

Qualifications

●  Exceptional research and written communication skills

●  Prior experience with community-centered design and design research

●  Ability to work well independently in a fast-paced environment

●  Strong interest in public policy, political participation and civics education

●  A junior or senior in college or graduate student, pursuing a degree in a related field

Compensation

● Stipend

●  Students who are eligible, may be able to utilize this position for work-study funds
