POSITION DESCRIPTION AND QUALIFICATIONS

The Department of Journalism + Media in the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts (CARTA) at Florida International University seeks applicants for a full-time, non-tenure earning Assistant/Associate Clinical Professor of Professional Practice in Digital/Multimedia Journalism.

The Department’s teaching philosophy is to educate through immersive learning opportunities. We are seeking an experienced and energetic professional to engage with students in our newly built Media Hub and remodeled broadcast studio to produce high-quality, multimedia student packages and projects for publishing on our digital platform—the South Florida Media Network.

The successful candidate will have a passion for integrating storytelling, journalism and technology, and have a portfolio of current work in digital journalism, data-driven storytelling, short and long form writing and multimedia production. We are looking for someone who can teach students traditional and digital journalism, writing, multimedia production, web publishing, data-driven and social media strategies.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about mentoring next-generation journalists and have the capacity to identify trends and emerging platforms that will enable future reporters. As our program is recognized for developing innovative community-based programs and projects, the candidate will have a portfolio that demonstrates the resourcefulness of enterprise journalism. 

This is a full-time, nine-month, multi-year, non-tenure earning clinical professional practice appointment (initial appointment of three years) and is renewable upon mutual consent. This position requires a master’s degree in Journalism or a related relevant field. Current experience reporting across media, and excellence in teaching in an academic environment, are preferred.
