Volumetric Performance Toolbox Pilot Residency Open Call
Overview
How can artists create new live performances during the time of COVID-19? Volumetric
Performance Toolbox is a collaborative project that envisions live online volumetric dance
performance as a new way for artists to create and perform from their own living spaces and
audiences to communally experience art using minimal equipment. The project is currently
being developed through Eyebeam NYC’s Rapid Response for a Better Digital Future
Fellowship. After a successful first phase during the summer, we are now focusing on how we
can make our tools and findings accessible to all artists so they can create their own volumetric
performances.

We are looking for 3D media artists, world builders and movement artists interested in working
in Mozilla Hubs and Spoke to join a co-learning and co-creation residency pilot. Participants will
meet online for a workshop series in December and January, which will culminate with an
informal showing of short performances in Mozilla Hubs. Participants will be given the
opportunity to present their performances as part of Eyebeam’s public programming in
mid-February 2021.
BIPOC communities are encouraged to apply.

participant will be shipped equipment for volumetric capture (own laptop and strong internet
connection is needed). Media and movement artists will pair up to collaboratively create a short
performance in Mozilla Hubs to take place at the end of January and mid-February as part of
Eyebeam’s public programming.
In addition to free-of-charge workshops and feedback from leading practitioners and
participation in this pioneering project, an honorarium of $250 will be offered for the creation and
performance.
