Reporting to the Manager, Studio Services, the Digital Fabrication
Technician is responsible for providing support to the University=E2=80=99s=
digital
fabrication technology and its faculty, students, researchers and approved
community partners. Working in collaboration with other academic and
administrative resource areas, this role ensures efficient and safe
functioning of the technology and related facilities, and provides the most
up-to-date technical support with regard to software, hardware, processes,
and safety to students and faculty.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Safely operate and maintain digital fabrication equipment including
laser cutter/engravers, 3D printers, CNC devices, robotic devices and
scanners

In consultation with the Manager, Studio Services, hire and train Class
Assistants and Studio Monitors

In consultation with the Manager, Studio Services, develop and implement
training and access procedures, to ensure safe use of equipment

Support faculty members delivery of curriculum by preparing materials,
setting up equipment, and providing individual and small group instructi=
on
of specialized techniques or equipment

Support students in their learning by acting as a resource regarding
materials and processes, and assisting with the technical resolution of
assignments

Responsible for health and safety by regularly participating in relevant
training, explaining hazards associated with materials and equipment,
demonstrating, modelling and enforcing proper health and safety procedur=
es,
and promptly reporting unsafe conditions to the Manager, Studio Services

Perform administrative duties such as coordinating the purchase of
supplies, maintaining inventory, completing yearly inventory reports,
assisting the Manager, Studio Services with preparation and tracking of
budgets, as well as development of student access policies and procedure=
s

Responsible for health and safety by regularly explaining hazards
associated with materials and equipment, demonstrating, modeling and
enforcing proper health and safety procedures, and promptly reporting
unsafe conditions to the Manager, Studio Services

Participate in the provision of a safe and secure environment for all
members of the OCAD University community and its facilities

Serve on committees and participate in University special events and
projects, as required

Maintain currency in technical developments within the discipline

Work with the Manager, Studio Services, Deans of Faculty, Associate
Deans, faculty members and other academic staff in support of the
university=E2=80=99s educational goals and objectives

Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent with a
minimum of five (5) years of experience

A solid understanding of the concepts and processes involved in digital
fabrication including 3D printing, laser engraving/cutting, 3D scanning,
CNC milling/routing, robotic control, and other computer-controlled devi=
ces

Sound understanding of materials associated with digital fabrication

Knowledge of the proprietary software, maintenance and use of digital
fabrication equipment

Comprehensive experience with file preparation for professional output
using digital fabrication software

Demonstrated ability to excel in communicating digital fabrication
processes and a strong commitment to providing outstanding learning supp=
ort
in a diverse environment

Strong organizational, interpersonal, communications and problem-solving
skills

Sound knowledge of, and commitment to, healthy and safe work practices
and environmental issues concerning the use, disposal, and recycling of
materials used by the students

Terms of Employment: This position is full time (35 hours per week) for 52
weeks, one (1) year probationary appointment. Salary is commensurate with
experience and career achievement, with access to full benefits. This
appointment is subject to Performance Review after one (1) year for the
purpose of recommending the conferral of Permanent status.
