About The Color of Care Documentary

This documentary produced by Oprah Winfrey and The Smithsonian Institute examines racial inequity in the healthcare system exposed by the COVID-19 Pandemic as seen through the experiences of three African American families.  The film issues a call to action to address and remediate these effects.

The COVID-19 Impact Project

The COVID-19 Impact Project is a social justice project that approaches the effects of the pandemic on black and brown communities through the lens of grief, mourning and memorialization coupled with data storytelling.  This project was created by ITP faculty John Henry Thompson and Shindy Johnson.

STUDENT JOBS/Event Oct 21, 2022

Students will be working under the supervision of faculty John Henry Thompson and Shindy Johnson. All jobs begin September 21, 2022. We are looking for students who are passionate about working on a social justice project.  Students should submit their resume/portfolio to smj2@nyu.edu. Students will be interviewed by John Henry, Shindy and project partner Tyler Peppel

Web Designer/Web Developer

Work with the COVID-19 Impact Project to create promotional webpages pages for the Color of Care documentary screening under the project’s domain. Web pages must work well on all browser and device types. 

Data Artist

Analyze and format NYC pandemic data in creative and compelling ways  to tell specific stories through data visualizations and infographics. Visualizations of pandemic data in the form of infographics, charts, maps, and other visual content should be interactive and dynamic, responding to changing data. 

Media Promotion

Create promotional materials for the event by combining digital assets from Color of Care, COVID-19 Impact Project and Tisch School of the Arts. Promotional assets must be suited for distribution via website, posters, newsletters and social media outlets (IG, twitter, Fb etc..) Excellent writing and social media marketing skills along with experience running a successful social media campaign preferred.

Photographer & Videographer

Take high quality photos and videos – including videos of interviews with panelists and guests – at the event. Edit photos and videos for distribution via our webpage and social media outlets.

Responsibilities:

Film videos at ITP.

Ensure that equipment for a shoot is present and working.

Plan the shoot with the creative team.

Post-production editing of video footage and inclusion of other digital media in the final product.

Direct other camera operators (as needed) so that the desired footage is acquired.

Requirements:

Experience producing and editing video

Proficiency with camera equipment.

Creativity and proficiency in chosen video editing tools

Journalist/Interviewer

Develop questions to ask panelists and guests before and after the screening. Conduct short interviews with panelists and attendees before and after the event. Interviews will be recorded using audiovisual equipment.

STUDENT JOBS/COVID-19 Impact Project

Web Designer/Web Developer

Design and build an updated website for the COVID-19 Impact Project that works well on all browser and device types. Perform periodic website updates based on new content or in response to website performance and user feedback

In order for you to succeed in this role, you will need to be proficient in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and have solid knowledge and experience in programming applications.

Responsibilities:

Design and build website using scripting or authoring languages, management tools, content creation tools, applications, and digital media.

Work with content and media asset producers. Excellent writing and editing skills as well as graphic design skills are a plus. 

Requirements:

Solid web design portfolio.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Videographer

Work with the COVID-19 Impact Project team to plan, film, and edit video content to promote different aspects of the Project. Responsibilities include checking out the appropriate equipment from the ER, recruiting and working with other camera operators as necessary and editing film footage.

To be successful as a videographer you must be able to creatively interpret the goals of the project to produce highly marketable final products.

Responsibilities:

Film videos at ITP.

Ensure that equipment for a shoot is present and working.

Direct other camera operators (as needed) so that the desired footage is acquired.
