Position: Summer Program Instructor
Job Description: The Summer Program Instructor works as part of a team to implement hands-on
project-based curriculum with youth ages 14-15. This position works directly with teachers,
supporting their professional development as they learn and implement a hands-on program
designed by Beam Center that involves art, technology, and craft. The Summer Program Instructor
will work with teachers and youth across several schools as they build projects, learn new skills, and
make connections to related career paths. This person helps lead professional development for
teachers, helps teachers to create a positive and supportive learning environment for a population of
multilingual students, and provides technical assistance. This position is also responsible for leading
programming with teachers when required. The Summer Program Instructor reports directly to the
Program Director.
Responsibilities:
● Learn and share with teachers a series a hands-on project arc designed by Beam Center
● Train teachers on the tools, techniques and concepts needed for the project
● Support teachers (remotely and in-person) in implementing this program
● Support teachers and students in making program → real-world career connections
● Co-teach projects in schools to youth alongside teachers
● Work with teachers across multiple school sites
● Work as part of a highly collaborative team and communicate regularly with team members
Qualifications of strong candidates:
● A personal practice and technical expertise in one or more of the following: Digital
Fabrication, Electronics, Coding (web-based and/or physical computing), AR, architecture &
design, other manual craft and fabrication skills
● Experience teaching or otherwise working with youth
● Experience working with diverse populations, particularly English Language Learners (ELLs)
● Highly collaborative, able to ask questions, offer professional opinions, celebrate teamwork
● Highly independent, able to set and manage personal goals, expectations, and schedule
● Detail oriented with experience managing multi-faceted projects while meeting deadlines
● Clear and consistent communicator
● Curious, life-long learner
Employment Status: This is a part-time temporary position (32 hours/week). Dates of employment
are Monday, June 12th – Tuesday, August 22nd, specific schedule TBD.
Compensation: This position is compensated at an hourly wage of $27/hour.
