The Herberger Institute recently launched four new graduate programs in extended reality, immersive experience design, futures and design, and narrative and emerging media to empower a more diverse next generation of creators in what we’re calling the XRts fields.
The Worlds for Change Challenge is a unique opportunity for current undergraduate students and recent graduates to participate in a worldbuilding contest and prototype their vision of a future. We are giving away two grand prize graduate scholarships worth $60,000 to attend one of the new programs, as well as a number of other cash and technology prizes. This is an ideal opportunity for undergraduate students and recent alumni who may be interested in or benefit from a fully-funded graduate degree.
The Challenge not only provides a platform for students to showcase your talents and visions but also serves as a gateway to exploring the skills you would develop through a graduate XRts degree.
Here’s how you can apply and contest rules:
- Who We’re Looking For: Students with a passion for XR, immersive storytelling, and creative technology – we call these XRts.
- How to Apply: Encourage students and alumx to submit their vision for an immersive world that communicates a story about something they care about.
- Deadlines: The Challenge kicked off September 23, 2023, and culminates at SXSW 2024 Mar 8-12, where ASU is presenting sponsor for the XR Experience.
- Info Sessions: There will be a number of online info sessions with faculty and industry experts. The next is on Dec 5 (see event page here).
