Wave Farm is pleased to announce a Summer Internship opportunity focused on Wave Farm’s Transmission Arts programs and made possible by The LeRoy Neiman and Janet Byrne Neiman Foundation Summer Internships support to Rethinking Residencies. This is a unique opportunity for an individual to gain hands-on experience with a non-profit media arts organization, with a focus on support for our international artists residency program, digital archives, and public programming. Applicants should possess enthusiasm for transmission and media arts, and be interested in an immersive experience working directly with artists and the inner workings of a non-profit arts organization.

  • Eligibility requirements: Applicants must be a high school senior, college freshmen, or college sophomore during the 2024-2025 academic year.
  • Time commitment: 16 hours/week: June – August (to be scheduled in conjunction with the successful applicant. Will include several Saturdays in conjunction with special events.)
  • Location: This position is based at the Wave Farm Study Center in Acra, NY. Housing is not provided, and independent transportation is necessary.
  • Stipend: $3,000

The Wave Farm Summer Intern will support the following programs:

  • Wave Farm Artists Residency Program (assistance, interviews, documentation)
  • Wave Farm Study Center Library and Archives
  • Public Programs, Art Park Tours, Live Radio Broadcasts

Founded in Brooklyn, NY, in 1997, as a microradio artists’ collective creating works for radio transmission, in 2002, Wave Farm became a non-profit arts organization focused on cultivating Transmission Arts, or artists’ experiments with broadcast media and the airwaves. Transmission art is generally a participatory live-art or time-based art, and often is made manifest as radio art, video art, installation, and performance.

Based in New York’s Upper Hudson Valley (Acra, NY) since 2004, Wave Farm is a non-profit arts organization driven by experimentation with broadcast media and the airwaves. Wave Farm’s Residency Program provides artists working within the Transmission Arts genre opportunities to research and create new works. In 2024, the Wave Farm Residency Program will emphasize “Live Performance for an Expanded Studio Audience.” Each residency will conclude with a public event at Wave Farm, which is also a live radio broadcast on Wave Farm Radio: WGXC 90.7-FM. Wave Farm’s Archives document and contextualize this work, including the Wave Farm Radio Art Archive, which is a project of an annual fellowship program. The Transmission Art Installation park features long-term projects installed on Wave Farm’s 29 acres in Acra, NY. These projects amplify the environment revealing what is otherwise unheard or unseen. Wave Farm’s WGXC-FM: Radio for Open Ears is a full-power, non-commercial, listener-supported station in New York’s Upper Hudson Valley.

To Apply: Applicants for Wave Farm’s Summer Internship opportunity should submit a letter of interest and resume for consideration to info@wavefarm.org. Please use your letter to tell us about your interest in transmission and radio arts and what you would hope to learn from this role. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
