Video Editor & Production Assistant Intern – ARTMATTERS: The Podcast for Artists
Help document the creative process of working artists on video
ARTMATTERS is a bi-weekly, in-person interview podcast that has been running for over two years with 70+ episodes. We record high-quality audio (and now video) directly in artists’ studios. No Zoom, no laptop mics. Guests have included Eric Fischl, Kyle Staver, Jameson Green, and many other working professional artists. The conversations are intimate, long-form, and focused on what it actually means to make art for a living.
We are expanding into full video episodes and need help making it happen.
What You’ll Do
Core responsibilities (the essentials we need covered):
- Edit 2-3 short clips (30-90 seconds) per week from interviews for Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts. We’re looking for clips that feel authentic and intimate, not overproduced. Think studio moments that reveal the creative process
- Help edit full-length 1-1.5 hour episodes from multi-camera footage
- Assist with basic social media posting and strategy for the clips
Additional opportunities (based on your interest and availability):
- Join occasional in-person recording sessions in Brooklyn to help with camera/mic setup
- Take notes during interviews for episode intros/outros
- Assist with audio polishing and overall post-production workflow
- Help research and reach out to potential guest artists
What You’ll Gain
- Real, portfolio-worthy video and audio work featuring established professional artists
- Hands-on mentorship from the host (a working artist with 10+ years of professional practice)
- Direct access to guests and their networks
- One-on-one feedback on your editing and production choices
- College credit (this position is structured to be credit-eligible through most university internship programs)
- Experience across every phase of independent podcast/video production. No busywork, just meaningful contributions
You Might Be a Great Fit If
- You have basic video editing skills (Premiere, Final Cut, DaVinci, etc.) and want to level up fast
- You are interested in creating social content that actually stops the scroll
- You care about strong audio, clean visuals, and honest storytelling
- You are organized with files, deadlines, and follow-through
- You are curious about contemporary art and the creative process (no expertise required, just genuine interest)
