Project: Expansion // Visibility
Artist/Director: Cain Coleman / Odessa Da Gawd
I am seeking 1 or 2 skilled Projection Mapping / Media Production Collaborator to support the development and execution of Expansion // Visibility, a live interdisciplinary performance integrating movement, live music, sound, lighting, projection, and theatrical production.
The primary responsibility of this role is the technical execution of projection mapping and media programming. I am looking for someone who can confidently and efficiently build, program, troubleshoot, and operate projection elements within QLab, while working in sync with the production’s sound, lighting, and live-performance cues.
Primary Skills & Responsibilities
- Strong experience with projection mapping
- Proficiency with QLab, particularly video and projection programming
- Ability to program and organize projection cues within a larger theatrical cue structure
- Ability to calibrate, map, test, troubleshoot, and adjust projections efficiently in the performance space
- Experience integrating video/projection with lighting, sound, live music, and performance
- Ability to collaborate during technical rehearsals and make adjustments quickly as the work develops
- Confidence working independently once the artistic and technical needs of a sequence have been established
Ideally, this person has several years of experience working with QLab, projection mapping, or theatrical media systems. However, demonstrated technical confidence, efficiency, and the ability to execute at a professional level are more important than a specific number of years.
Creative Collaboration
This person does not need to be a graphic designer or visual artist. Visual design experience is certainly a plus, but the central need is someone who can take existing visual ideas, media, and artistic direction and successfully translate them into the physical performance environment.
A strong candidate will also have a theatrical sense of production: an understanding of timing, rhythm, transitions, atmosphere, and how technical elements support rather than overwhelm a live performance.
I am especially interested in someone who enjoys collaboration and can think beyond simply “running projections.” The ideal collaborator understands how projection, light, sound, music, bodies, and space can operate together to create a cohesive theatrical world.
About the Project
Expansion // Visibility explores the internal and external labor of sustaining a life as a contemporary artist: creating, performing, producing, selling, archiving, monetizing, and maintaining visibility while attempting to remain connected to one’s artistic intuition.
The approximately 35-minute solo performance brings together live performance, a three-piece band, recorded media, projection, sound, and lighting. The production collaborator will help translate this growing body of material into a technically cohesive and repeatable live-performance system.
