[GIG] Creative Technologist, The Vanderbilt Republic

The Vanderbilt Republic is preparing to launch the 2013 edition of our annual artist cooperative, Art From the Heart (AFTH)! We’re looking for a creative technologist to help architect a Tumblr-friendly, database-driven web submission and voting system for the digital submissions we’ll receive. Design, frontend & backend will be built in close collaboration with VR’s Creative Director, George Del Barrio.

AFTH2013 digital production will have three phases:

The Open Call — this is a desktop browser-focused submission system to accept form data from artists worldwide: name, contact details, artist statement and 3-5 JPEGs. Form submissions must be written to database in a way that allows the information to be republished en masse for The Public Vote.

The Public Vote — a desktop/mobile GUI to publish artist submissions for sharing, exploration encouraged. Artwork galleries will feature a basic vote system that can differentiate between unique and repeat votes, with vote data exportable to spreadsheet. Each artist will be given unique URLs for their submission group as well as for individual submissions, with a beautiful index of all submissions. This phase represents a high-profile opportunity for innovative play; the top five (unique) vote recipients are guaranteed inclusion in the curated exhibition.

The Show — digital submissions will be recontextualized for interactive, large-scale, projection on the urban canvas around our project space, Gowanus Loft. Involvement in this phase is optional, based on your interests and experience.

Compensation is an honorarium between $500-$1000 (depending on the fundraising performance of our presenting partner, Arts Gowanus); top-line credit on vanderbiltrepublic.com; core connection to the revolutionary family of artists, builders and activists that comprise VR; access to the Gowanus Loft project space. Candidates, please submit a resume with cover letter to George Del Barrio:george@vanderbiltrepublic.com.

The Vanderbilt Republic explores paradigm shifts.
