“Wanted: Student Teachers for Digital Arts Class at Lower Manhattan Community Middle School
Here is the story: I have been asked to create a new class, Digital Arts. I want to make it concept driven rather than simply teaching technology, using creative projects as a means to employ a variety of programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, i Movie and i Photo, and any other relevant programs that I have available. I have training in public art, photo and film/video, being a conceptual artist (Here and here are two of my creative sites) but have rudimentary skills in the tech, so I am looking for student teachers to help with that aspect and work the class with me. It could be a lot to fun. The actual class periods are broken up into 90 minute workshop periods rather than the traditional 43 minute periods so more in-depth work can be accomplished. The 7th and 8th classes will run the entire year so there is a lot of potential.
For example, the first project is a typography project, to discover the power of text, color, line, etc, using their name as the focus. The second project is to create a personal logo/brand and the third is a self portrait using a photograph simply as a starting point. I want to continue to do personal projects using sound, and then moving image. Later in the year we will create more advertising-like campaigns and then move into politically motivated projects.
