SUBJECT: [Opportunity] NYU Shanghai IMA Resident Fellows 2016-2017
NYU Shanghai’s Interactive Media Arts Program (IMA) seeks Research Fellows for the 2016 -2017 academic year.
What is IMA?
IMA is the undergraduate version of ITP. We offer a Bachelor of Science degree in Interactive Media. IMA is a program with more than 240 students passing through each semester. The program is the second largest major in the school with 58 declared majors and 27 declared minors. The student body of NYU Shanghai is diverse with a 50% local Chinese National population and the other half coming from around the globe. Our student body is currently at approximately 700 students, but will rise to 1100 next year. IMA is currently the only Arts major in the school.
What do we teach at IMA?
During the course of this coming academic year, IMA courses will include:
Multiple sections of our foundation courses:
Interaction Lab (computation and physical computing) and Communications Lab.
Numerous and diverse electives including:
Animation: Traditional Techniques & Contemporary Practices, Collaborative Design, Collective Methods, Communities and Net Literature, Creating Immersive Worlds, Chinese Cyberculture, Developing Web, Expressing Data, Introduction to Robotics, Making Maker Education, Paper Arts: History & Practice, Rapid Prototyping, Shanghai Street Food and Urban Farming, Solar Solutions: Considering the Sun in our Digital Futures, Talking Fabrics, Unmanned Aerial Storytelling, and User Experience Design.
What are the responsibilities of the IMA Resident Fellow?
As with the ITP Research Residents, responsibilities for the IMA Resident Fellow break down into three areas:
– Student Support, including help sessions, tutorials, and one-on-one office hours
– Service to the program
– Personal Research
Contract / Compensation / Benefits
The position is a 10-month appointment (September 2016-June 2017). Fellows receive a monthly salary, University housing (or housing allowance), health insurance, travel to and from Shanghai, a small relocation fund, and visa procurement assistance.
(Note: the visa process can take up to 3 months and includes paperwork, a physical examination, and other deadlines. You will be guided through the process by NYU Shanghai HR. However, you will need to complete these steps yourself prior to arrival.)
