User Experience Designer and Researcher Internship

The NYU Office of Global Services (OGS) is looking for an energetic and creative graduate student to fill an open UX Designer and Researcher Internship position. This position is a key member of the OGS Communications team, working on projects and issues related to user experience design and research.

The time commitment is 20 hours per week.. Hours worked would need to be within regular office hours (MondayFriday from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.). Availability to work during university breaks is preferred. Salary is $18/hour. You must be a full-time student at NYU to be considered for this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Project Management

    • Manage user testing and user experience initiatives from start to finish

    • Conduct meetings with project stakeholders to understand goals, requirements, user profiles, and context of use

    • Delegate UX project tasks to other members of team and staff

    • Follow through on implementation, including tasks for user testing, design implementation and optimization

  • User Research and Testing

    • Perform qualitative user research to understand user needs and evaluate design solutions for usability

    • Coordinate and run usability testing sessions – recruiting participants, setting up testing stations, observation room, ordering supplies, communicating with staff, etc.

    • Analyze and synthesize findings, writing concise reports to share with team members

    • Create highlight videos/screenshots and archive documentation for future use.

  • User Experience Design

    • Create interaction design deliverables such as process flows, wireframes, annotations and prototypes for web, big screen displays, kiosk and other interfaces.

    • Implement designs through CMS, front end development, Adobe CS6 and other software

    • Analyze content and information architecture to improve navigation structure

    • Access existing data and find ways to share them with appropriate audiences in more delightful and informative ways

  • Secondary role – Assist Communications team if needed with overflow of web and design requests including CMS web updates, handout updates, and emails.

  • Experience with desktop and web publishing applications such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.

  • Experience with html, css, javascript

  • Comfortable receiving tasks and feedback

  • Actively takes initiative on independent and team projects

  • Effective at articulating ideas and communicating needs

  • Reliable–you come to work when your calendar says you will

  • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
