Overview
The Jain Family Institute is seeking an intern, in college or early graduate school,
to contribute to the development and launch of a prototype product for our
current projects on mass digitization and digital curation. The ideal candidate has
a wide-ranging curiosity, particular interest in topic modeling and relationship
mining, and substantial experience programming in Python. She or he will be
joining a small team of generalist-practitioners with backgrounds in philosophy,
physics, engineering, and data science working on mapping research ecologies as
represented in online articles and blogs.
The internship carries a stipend of $5,000 for approximately 15 hours per week
over six months. Those interested should send a CV or résumé with contact

Selected candidates will be invited to an in-person interview in our Manhattan
office in late June.
The preferred due date is June 16th, after which we will accept applications on a
rolling basis.
Responsibilities • Time commitment: approximately 15 hours a week
• Attendance: one to two times weekly, at meetings in our Upper East Side
office
• Tasks:
o assisting with the development and implementation of scraping
and classification systems;
o experimenting with and implementing various approaches to
topic modeling, including LDA and distributional clustering;
o exploring graphical representations of topic clusters and citation
networks;
Required Skills and Qualifications • Familiarity with Python, including data science packages
• Excellent analytic or quantitative skills; strong communication
