TEMP: United Nations Development Programme, Full-time, Multimedia Design Consultant

DESCRIPTION

The Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA) is responsible for UNDP’s external relations and advocacy functions. The Bureau leads and supports the organization in cultivating, building and nurturing strategic relationships and alliances that are essential for advancing and successfully achieving the mission of UNDP. These relationships encompass a wide range and number of key constituencies and development partners, that includes programme countries, existing and prospective donor countries/emerging economic powers, multilateral institutions such as the IFIs, the European Commission, civil society, the private sector, foundations, academia and think tanks, the wider UN system, various UN intergovernmental bodies, as well as global, regional and national media.

BERA’s Digital Communications team is responsible for developing and maintaining UNDP’s digital properties including website, blogs and social media. The Digital Communications team works closely with the other teams in the Communications group to ensure that the tone and visual representation of UNDP branded products are consistent.

Reporting to the team manager, the Multimedia Design Consultant will be responsible for conceptualizing and creating social media visual assets for campaigns and international days as well as multimedia content for mobile and microsites.

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of Work and contract period

  1. The primary role of the Multimedia Design consultant is to create graphics (eg infographics, GIFs) and other visual material for UNDP’s social media channels across English, French and Spanish platforms;
  2. The consultant will work closely with the UX designer to design web and mobile user interfaces for UNDP microsites as well as web multimedia content (animations and motion graphics) for UNDP web stories.

The contract period commences on 1 July 2018 until 31 December 2018.

 

Expected Outputs and Deliverables

  • Developing a series of infographics to be used to promote the Strategic Plan
  • Design a series of GIFs, infographics and other visuals for International Days
  • Design a series of climate-related GIFs, infographics and other visuals for COP24 and Global Climate Action Summit
  • Design a series of GIFs, infographics and other visuals for International Day for fundraising events (eg disasters and emergencies)
  • Design a series of GIFs, infographics and other visuals for other campaigns as they arise
  • Design a series of CSS based animation or web based motion graphics and other visuals for the web stories as they arise
  • Deliver on UI designs for microsites to promote campaigns e.g. Sustainable Development Goals and UNDP’s new Strategic Plan.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • At least a Bachelor Degree in Design, Visual Communication or related degree.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in graphic design / multimedia design is required;
  • Experience designing compelling visuals for social media including infographics and GIFs is desired;
  • Experience designing compelling visuals for web including CSS animations and motion graphics is desired;
  • Proficiency in User Interface (UI) design for websites and microsites is desired;
  • Working knowledge of brand principles and identity is desired;
  • Knowledge of and previous experience in UNDP or another UN agency desired;

Language

  • Fluent in written and spoken English

 

Institutional Arrangement

The Multimedia Design Consultant will report to the Manager of the Online and Digital team. The manager will review and approve the deliverables. The deliverables will be assessed at milestones defined at the project onset and approved at or before the deadline. The consultant may be required to liaise with external vendors and printers.

Duration of the Work

The consultancy will start on 1 July 2018 and end 31 December 2018, on a full-time basis working at 5 days per week.

 Duty Station

The consultant is expected to work in UNDP HQ office located in New York City.

Scope of Price Proposal and Schedule of Payments

Candidates should submit a daily rate as part of their application when requested by UNDP.
