Position Description and Qualifications
The Department of Journalism + Media in the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts (CARTA) at Florida International University seeks a dynamic faculty member for either:
- a tenure track/tenured Assistant/Associate Professor of Digital Media or
- a non-tenure-earning/non-tenured Assistant/Associate Clinical Professor of Professional Practice in Digital Media.
The successful candidate will teach digital storytelling: writing, coding, multimedia design, data visualization, social media strategies, audio and video integration. We are looking for someone who has a talent for identifying media trends and emerging platforms and can help prepare our students for next-generation storytelling.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for integrating storytelling and technology; a portfolio of work in one or more of the following areas: multimedia storytelling, data-driven narrative, augmented and/or virtual reality; and experience teaching. Candidates who bring a research focus that complements one or more of the Department’s research areas in climate change, science and health communication, multi-cultural communication and emerging technologies will be especially considered.
This is a full-time 9-month tenured/tenure track position or a multi-year, non-tenure earning professional practice appointment (initial appointment of 3 years) and is renewable upon mutual consent. A Ph.D. or related terminal degree is required for the tenured/tenure track position. Alternatively, a master’s degree and substantial experience are required for the clinical professional practice position. Candidates are expected to have a dynamic professional practice and/or an active research agenda in keeping with the department’s tenure and promotion standards. Ideally creative or research activity will find opportunities to include qualified students. The initial appointment will start in August 2020.
