Associate Director of Visitor Experience
The Associate Director of Visitor Experience provides leadership and management of all front-of-house operations including the museum’s store, café, admissions and coat check, and all volunteers. This position requires a strategic thinker, assuming a key role in project and process planning, daily management and execution, as well as business analysis, for a wide range of projects that support revenue growth and optimal performance within the Visitor Experience Department (VE). This is a full-time position that reports to the Deputy Director for Administration and CFO. Job schedule: Wednesday through Sunday. 

  • Directs the daily staffing and operation of VE, including training, opening and closing of transaction locations, problem-solving, and securing of monies.
  • Responsible for directing the daily objectives and goals of the VE Management Team, and represents that Team at all relevant internal and external meetings. Develops action plans and budgets for special projects as required.
  • Oversees the ticketing database and online ticketing system.
  • Leads the Museum’s efforts around accessibility initiatives.
  • Creates and logs detailed attendance, sales, and demographic reports.
  • Oversees the Museum Shop and Museum Café, including custom product development, general inventory management, and daily operations.
  • Responsible for creating and managing VE and Volunteer budgets.
  • Manages department purchases — from creation of purchase order requests, ordering of products and materials, to delivery, storage, and inventory of such.
  • Ensures that health and safety protocols are followed in order to protect staff and visitors.
  • Manages the Museum’s volunteer program, including maintenance of any relevant agreements or documents, scheduling, and evaluations as required.
  • Manages the Museum’s program of surveys and evaluation efforts, and other activities, to track the Museum’s program offerings and audience response.
  • Collaborates with marketing and education departments to develop and establish and maintain tourism partners and packages.
  • Works with the Museum’s Director of Events to create, log, invoice, track and process all agreements for venue rentals, including securing deposits and payments, and maintenance of master schedule, and also including appropriate notifications of upcoming events.
  • Works with the Director of Building Operations in maintaining all required maintenance standards in the Museum Café, as well as general maintenance of the Museum’s main entrance and lobby areas.
  • Works with the Director of Security to implement and conduct periodic reviews of security procedures, including all emergency response and evacuation plans.
  • Networks with other museum professionals to ensure the best practices for MoMI and VE department.
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Three to five years progressively responsible experience in membership, marketing, business management, or development, coupled with mid- or senior-level customer service experience, preferably in a cultural or nonprofit institution.
  • A professional, warm, and positive attitude, along with strong customer service, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in mathematics and data analysis required. Ability to translate mathematical information into concise reports and identify data that need tracking to improve business performance.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and Google Drive, as well as both Windows and Mac operating systems. 
  • Willingness to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with ticketing software required. 
  • Knowledge of PoS systems desirable.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours including holidays, nights, and weekends when required.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
