Responsibilities and Expectations
Below are the responsibilities and expectations of teaching assistants (section leader and grader) hired for Center for Data Science undergraduate-level courses. Students should discuss and confirm these responsibilities with the course instructor.
As a section leader, the student is responsible for
- attending lectures,
- preparing for labs,
- conducting lab sessions, and
- holding office hours.
All section leaders will be expected to grade. This includes grading homework, assignments, midterms, and final exams. Responsibilities also include posting homework/assignment/exam information via NYU Brightspace (includes scanning of physical exams), collecting assignments, and uploading homework/assignment/exam grades via NYU Brightspace.
The expected number of hours a week is:

- 5 hours a week for section leader responsibilities
- 5 hours a week for grader responsibilities
Generally, students will be hired for 2 sections of a particular course. Instructional staff can only be graduate students or non-students (alumni, adjuncts, etc.). Undergraduate students cannot be hired.
