Responsibilities
Within the limits of delegated authority, under the supervision of the Chie=
f, Multimedia Resources Unit, News and Media Division/DPI, the Information O=
fficer is responsible for the following functions: support the public inform=
ation activities of the UN in order to publicize priority issues before the =
Organization through the strategic development and support of all multimedia=
applications in the Radio and Television Service; lead software development=
, programming, testing, debugging and deployment of all new application rele=
ases in the Radio and Television Service; leverage the UN multimedia website=
through the preparation of a style manual, programming web pages to enable =
streamlined workflows and convergence of traditional and new media operation=
s to improve dissemination of radio, television, photo and multimedia produc=
ts; provide technical IT support throughout the entire multimedia production=
workflow from recording/ingestion to distribution of products over the Inte=
rn
et (podcast, vodcast such as iTunes; YouTube, Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, et=
c.); install, configure and maintain a variety of hardware and software prod=
ucts, including those requiring integration into existing IT systems; levera=
ge data mining tools and relational databases to improve the web data collec=
tion and analysis; ensure appropriate security for data and provides for acc=
ess controls taking into consideration both the local and broader issues; pr=
epare system=92s documentation and related technical/procedural manuals; and=
provide technical, training, logistical and administrative support for all =
IT related matters in the Radio and Television Service whose work activities=
are increasingly IT-driven. =20

QUALIFICATIONS =20

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in computer scie=
nce or engineering, or a combination of communication, journalism, public re=
lations or related field with a strong emphasis in technology. A first level=
university degree with a relevant combination of professional training, cer=
tification and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university=
degree. =20

Work Experience
Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience related to mu=
ltimedia design and development is required. Experience in a news and media =
production and distribution environment at the national or international lev=
el is required. Experience with new media tools applied to journalism, commu=
nications and multimedia production is required. Experience in both public a=
nd private sector organizations is desirable. =20

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretar=
iat. For this post, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. =
Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable. =20

Other Skills
Familiarity with the latest trends, tools and techniques in internet techno=
logy and multimedia, including knowledge on how best to leverage the use of =
electronic social networks to enhance UN public information work is required=
. At least intermediary level skills in computer graphics and web developmen=
t technique and tools such as HTML, DHTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, ASP, .NET, =
J2E, Perl, Flash Action Scripting, multimedia encoding and compression metho=
ds is desirable. Intermediary skills in multimedia and office applications s=
uch as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, Dreamweaver, Final =
Cut Pro, as well as Microsoft Office Tools is desirable. =20
