JOB: STEM Teacher

STEM Teacher (Lower School Grades 1-5; Middle School Grades 6-8) 

SAR Academy, a Modern Orthodox day school in Riverdale, NY, is seeking an experienced, dynamic Lower School (Grades 1-5) and Middle School (Grades 6-8) STEM teacher with a passion to teach and a strong ability to build rapport with students in an environment where learning through 21st century resources is valued and encouraged. 

Qualifications: 

  • Exhibits strong ability to build connections with young students and to develop an atmosphere of mutual respect
  • Displays effective collaborative skills
  • Understands principles of social, emotional and cognitive development
  • Demonstrates an ability to teach elementary and middle school children core ideas within the domains of science while incorporating scientific and engineering practices.
  • Experience with or a willingness to learn coding, robotics, 3D design and engineering design process
  • Uses educational technology to maximize student engagement and to differentiate instruction ● Approaches problem-solving in a positive, creative and encouraging manner

Responsibilities: 

  • Prepares and teaches engaging inquiry-based Science curriculum
  • Incorporates STEM education through experiential learning
  • Create and implement strategies for weaving STEAM experiences into multi-disciplinary curricula ● Teaches students in a fair, warm and open-minded environment with differentiated learning ● Manages classroom effectively
  • Maintains open communication with students, parents and administrators
  • Assumes responsibilities outside of the classroom, such as tefila, lunch and recess duty

Salary: 

$50,000 – $80,000 a year 

Salary commensurate with experience.
