Position Overview

StoryCorps is an independent nonprofit project whose mission is to hon=
or and celebrate one another=92s lives through listening. StoryCorps Histori=
as is a one-year initiative to record the stories of 700 Latinos around the =
country. Recognizing the need to cover diverse Latino communities, StoryCorp=
s Historias will gather stories from Latino residents in the US that represe=
nt numerous national backgrounds =96 Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Central a=
nd South American =96 as well as urban and rural experiences. StoryCorps His=
torias will be conducted with partnership and support from the Latino Public=
Radio Consortium, historical and cultural institutions, and membership orga=
nizations.

The Historias Communications Assistant is a key member of =
a fast-paced, highly collaborative team that will help successfully launch a=
nd execute the goals of the Historias Initiative. The Communications Assista=
nt works directly with StoryCorps=92 Historias staff, senior management, and=
Marketing & Communications Department as well as an outside public rela=
tions firm to help create the public face of StoryCorps=92 Historias Initiat=
ive.

The Communications Assistant, Historias Initiative reports to th=
e Manager of Community Outreach in coordination with the Marketing and Commu=
nications department.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

7/15/09 to 9/15/09 Essential Functions:

Manage and ove=
rsee the work of our external marketing/PR firm, and Historias staff to plan=
and execute the national Historias launch in Washington D.C., approximately=
in mid-September; Goal is to ensure national media coverage of launch event=
.
Collaborate with Historias staff and other designated StoryCorps =
staff to ensure smooth operations and clear communications about all DC laun=
ch plans and activities.

Ongoing Duties & Responsibilities=
:

Collaborate with Outreach, Mobile, StoryBooth and Fee-for-S=
ervice departments to develop Historias marketing and promotion plans. Assist Marketing Coordinator and Historias Senior Coordinator in design =
and production of all Historias marketing collateral, including printed mate=
rials, e-materials, newsletters and templates for use by StoryCorps departme=
nts.
Assist Marketing Coordinator and Historias Senior Coordinator =
to create co-branded Historias materials and messages in collaboration partn=
er institutions.
Coordinate with StoryCorps=92 Development departme=
nt regarding any communications with Historias participants/alumni.
Coordinate with Communications Assistant to track all press coverage and pr=
epare press reports for funders, StoryCorps Executive Team, and Board Member=
s.
Manage Historias digital assets such logos, photos, audio files,=
and testimonials.

Knowledge, Skills, & Qualifications

Bilingual in Spanish and English is required. Cu=
ltural awareness and knowledge of Latino communities in the United States. 2 =96 3 years experience in Marketing, Communications, or a related =
field.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Excellent atte=
ntion to detail and ability to multi-task.
Demonstrated analytical =
skills and problem-solving ability; adaptive to growing, changing organizati=
on.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office word processing, spreadsheet, e=
mail, and database software. Basic HTML (blog level) and experience with Ado=
be Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign) also required.
Proficiency =
on a Mac platform is preferred.
