Production intern

Dates: 1st November =96 22nd November 2009 (2-3 days a week minimum)

escription: The intern will assist DEXTER SINISTER in producing and  
=
operating =
a newspaper during Performa 09, the third edition of the  
New York Biennial of =
Visual Arts Performance (Nov 1-22). Duties include:


Assisting the artist=
s in installation/de-installation and operation  

of the newspaper office, produ=
ction and distribution of the newspaper
Welcoming and informing the audience during o=
pening hours (12-6pm)
Facilitating communication between institutions and partners =
involved
=
Proofreading

Skills: the candidate should be enthusiastic and pragmati=
c, with an  
interest in contemporary media, some knowledge of contemporary art, =
 
and=
the ability to work under pressure and within a team. Careful  
=
readers are part=
icularly welcome, as manic yet rigorous proofreading  
is likely to be one of the=
main tasks of everyone involved in this  

production. No scenesters.

Intern =
will gain hands-on experience in assisting artists on a just- 
in-time newspaper=
production in the context of an established New  
=
York non-profit organization.=

Internship unpaid =96 university credits may be arranged.=

ABOUT PERFORMA
Performa, a non-profit multidiscip=
linary arts organization established by RoseLee Goldberg in 2004, is dedicat=
ed to exploring the critical role of live performance in the history of twen=
tieth century art and to encouraging new directions in performance for the t=
wenty-first century. Performa launched New York
=92s fir=
st performance biennial, Performa 05, in 2005, and followed up with Performa=
07 in 2007. Both biennials were greeted with tremendous critical and popula=
r acclaim.

Performa 09, the third biennial of new visual art performance, will take=
place in New York City from November 1-22, 2009, bringing over 50 venues an=
d 25 curators together to present more than 80 artists from around the world=
. Taking the 100th anniversary of Futurism as its starting point, Performa 0=
9 will feature new Performa Commissions as part of an exciting program of li=
ve events in visual art, film, noise music, sound poetry, graphic design, da=
nce, architecture, and urbanism that seeks to re-imagine the cultural future=
of New York City.
