Graphic Analyst

TERMS OF REFERENCE

The Fund for Gender Equality is a $68 million, multi-donor initiative designed to advance innovative, high-
impact programmes that focus on women’s economic and political empowerment at local and national
levels, in line with national development plans and priorities. Launched in December 2008 with an initial
contribution of EUR 50 million (US$65 million) from the Government of Spain, and subsequently joined
by the government of Norway, the Fund provides grants on a competitive basis to civil society and
governmental agencies in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, the Arab States, Latin America and the Caribbean,
Central and Eastern Europe, and the Commonwealth of Independent States. Up to date, the Fund has
provided grants to 27 Catalytic grantees projects and 13 Implementation grant initiatives.

As part of a broader Knowledge Management and Communications strategy to collect, analyze and
share knowledge about FGE and our grantees, the Fund would like to commission the creation of three
factsheets. Specifically the factsheets should use text and visual elements to clearly and creatively
highlight the work of the Fund and of our grantees. The themes of the three factsheets are as follows: 1)
FGEs Grantmaking Program; 2) Overview of 2009-2010 Grantees; 3) In-depth case study of a specific
grantmaking theme (TBD).

Please note that this is not a Graphic Designer position. The Graphic Analyst is expected to convert
statistics and data into informative graphically driven factsheets. A successful Graphic Analyst candidate
must clearly demonstrate the ability to comprehend numerically-driven data and convert information into
appropriate, visually compelling, and factually accurate materials.

Deliverables: 3 separate factsheets; 2-4 Pages Each
Payment: $???? per factsheet for a total of $????; Consultant will invoice UNW at the completion of
each deliverable.

Responsibilities:

In consultation with the Communications Specialist and KM & IS Specialist develop overall
concept for each factsheet;
Synthesize FGE programmatic data, grantee reports, and other information into concise and
coherent content; write any necessary copy;
Research any additional data as needed;
Design and create factsheets to visually represent data in a manner that is easy to understand,
visually appealing, compelling and accurate; design factsheets to appeal to specific audiences;
Provide three different designs for each factsheet; submit initial design to FGE, make edits based
on feedback; provide second round design to FGE, make edits based on feedback; create final
version;
Work with translators to create versions in Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian;
Ensure the factsheets match UN Branding;
Create high resolution documents to ensure high quality final products;

Submit copy of factsheets to UN Women in original program file and as a PDF.

Advanced university degree in Graphic Design, Communications, Social Sciences, Sociology or
other relevant field;
Ability to work independently and achieve quality results with limited supervision;
Minimum 3-5 years experience in statistical and business graphic design and technical
illustrating, editing or writing;
Ability to create innovative and appealing visual materials that are gender sensitive and
internationally appropriate;
Expert in Adobe Suite including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator;
Strong strategic communication skills,
Excellent editing skills;
Demonstrated knowledge and experience working on women’s economic and political
empowerment.
