[JOB] Jr. User Interface Visual Designer

Jr. User Interface Visual Designer

Case Commons is a non-profit startup whose mission is to transform public sector human services through user-centered design & technology. We want to enable workers serving the most vulnerable families and children to be more effective and efficient via new software tools, and we’re pursing this vision through the development of Casebook – the first collaborative, family-centered case management system for child welfare. Case Commons is funded by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, which has spent 20 years pursuing human services system reform, and works in partnership with Pivotal Labs and IDEO.

We’re looking for a talented User Interface Visual Designer to join our product team & help us take our Casebook system from pilot to platform, enabling case workers to use modern social networking technologies to track cases better, see the connections among the various people and agencies, be more effective and efficient, and improve the quality of life for families and children.

You’ll have the chance to shape the visual language, branding, and user interface across multiple products on the Casebook platform, as well as supporting training and promotional materials for our clients. As a member of the Product Team, you’ll be collaborating on design strategy with User Experience Designers & Product Managers. We also work with some of the best agile/rails developers in the world in an agile process that allows us to generate and evaluate new designs quickly. The user feedback loop is immediate and the sprints are week to week. You’ll be informed by real user insights as you refine the usability of your interface design.

Candidates should have:

  • Examples of Web-based visual design, with special consideration for interactive software or application design (Please indicate your role within these projects)
  • Competency in standard design tools (Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Ability to translate existing style guides & wireframes to interface designs
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with frontend development technologies
  • Experience with/willing to learn to assist with overseeing 508 ADA accessibility compliance
