Intern Needed for the Plastic Pollution Coalition

We are looking for an intern to help in the day to day affairs of the Plastic Pollution Coalition, with an emphasis on web development, helping create a GIS mapping app for tracking plastic bags, and an online trash artist registry.  As our organization in NYC is small, the intern would be working alongside the regional coordinators and could also engage in high-level activities such as writing press releases, organizing fundraising, creating educational material, representing the PPC at meetings, and helping us plan events. Other duties, such as leading his or her own initiatives, are possible commensurate with experience.

He or she would work directly with the founders of Trashpatch.org, a do-tank dedicated to raising awareness of plastic pollution in the environment through art and design and with the Plastic Pollution Coalition, an global organization dedicated to fighting plasticpollution.
The intern will be able to work towards his or her strengths and any unique attributes he or she brings to the job; while many tasks are defined in advance, the position is also flexible to accommodate innovation.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications:

  • experience, interest, or other commitment to the environment and social justice, especially plastic pollution;
  • social media skills;
  • website development and design;
  • other computer skills, including web research, word processing, presentation software, graphic design, GIS, video editing;
  • resides in NYC or surrounding area

Dates:

The intern would work through the Spring semester with possible extension to the summer, 5-10 hours a week. Start date is somewhat flexible. This is an unpaid position.
