JOB: Apply to be a Resident Technologist Lab Member, EDesign Lab

Apply to be a Resident Technologist Lab Member

We are seeking creative technologists in the NYC area interested in designing and developing prototypes of digital learning experiences, interfaces, and tools that rethink education.

What is EDesign Lab (formerly called DTC Lab)?

Innovation often emerges from the intersection of disciplines. We are creating a space for that intersection. EDesign Lab (www.edesignlabs.org) is a collaboration supported by the Ford Foundation between educators, technologists, and designers to serve as a catalyst for building and incubating examples of what the future of digital learning can look like to improve student engagement, motivation, and success.

The lab focuses on ways to design interactive digital experiences and tools that extend and connect learning beyond the classroom. The lab offers exposure to real world design needs, engagement with user-centered design/feedback, membership into a community of leading design organizations and fellow technologists, and the potential for creating solutions that can impact thousands of public school students.

Who are we looking for?

Technologist lab members are creative, collaborative, and possess some coding and design chops. To be eligible to become a Resident Technologist Lab Member, you must be able to design and develop prototypes within one of the following focus areas:

  • Interactive websites and web-based applications
  • Mobile applications
  • Data visualizations
  • Physical computing and sensors
  • Embodied interfaces
  • Digital games and simulations

We are also open to hearing from folks who are entrepreneurially interested in learning technologies and would value an opportunity to learn more about real time needs from educators and develop with lab support.

The lab year runs from late September 2012 through June 2013, with a commitment of two lab sessions a month along with occasional independent project work. Honorarium dollars are awarded as a participating lab member and on a case by case basis for additional contributions.

How do I apply?

Applicants are reviewed on a rolling basis so please apply before August 13th to receive primary consideration.
