Volunteer Opportunities at Older Adults Technology Services
WHO WE ARE
Older Adults Technology Services (OATS) is a nationally recognized nonprofit that engages older adults in using technology to improve their quality of life and enhance their social and civic engagement. This fall OATS is opening the Senior Planet Exploration Center, a unique technology-themed destination for older adults in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood. The Exploration Center will provide a range of programming, including tech training, a speaker series and cultural events. OATS is also re-launching its website for seniors and managing a citywide network of 23 community-based technology labs and local training programs for older New Yorkers.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Front Desk Reception Volunteers
OATS is seeking volunteers to serve as ambassadors of our organization. Front desk volunteers will answer the phone, greet visitors, and respond to inquiries regarding our programs and services, and more. We will be training volunteers on our equipment and provide all information you might need; and staff members are always nearby to answer any questions.
Schedule Front Desk Volunteers should commit to work a regular 4-hour shift any weekday morning or afternoon between 9am and 4pm.
Who should apply This volunteer position is ideal for anyone who wants to keep their administrative skills current, learn new skills, and gain knowledge on the structure and operations of a nonprofit organization.

Tech Support Volunteers
OATS is seeking tech support volunteers to work at the “Tech Desk” and help visitors with technology-related questions, basic computer skills and trouble-shooting for their computers and devices.
Schedule Tech support volunteers should commit to work a regular 4-hour shift any weekday morning or afternoon between 9am and 4pm.
Who should apply If you possess technology knowledge and skills, this is a great role to explore. Volunteers who can provide technical support for our lab/training & website are especially valuable.

Events Volunteers
OATS is seeking an events volunteer to assist at upcoming events, presentations and meetups. Duties may include greeting/registration, décor & set up, ticket/coat collection, and general clean up and breakdown of staging.
Schedule Volunteers should commit to a two- to four-hour time slot per event 1-2x per month.
Who should apply This is perfect for someone looking to complete community service hours or simply get involved in fun, cultural and informational programs and events.

Editorial Intern
Senior Planet is seeking an editorial/production intern to help with the October launch and upkeep of our new site, SeniorPlanet.org. The editorial/production intern will assist the site editor and other editorial staff with, among other duties:
– Online research
– Content curating
– Sourcing stock images
– Inputting content
– Some writing and visual content creation
What you’ll learn Working directly with the site editor, the intern will have every opportunity to learn the day-to-day workings of online publishing. Specific skills you’ll be able to develop: editorial research, writing, photo editing, WordPress CMS.
Who should apply The ideal intern will be interested in developing editorial skills with a view to possibly working in online publishing. Candidates for this position should have a solid command of language, feel comfortable writing in conversational English, and have very basic image editing skills (i.e.: Photoshop) along with a facility for learning new applications and using new digital tools.
Schedule We’re looking for an intern to work one day per week or two half days. College credit may be available with prior approval from career center/college advisor on your campus.

Administrative Intern
OATS is seeking an intern to handle all general front desk duties as well as provide administrative support for a new Technology Exploration Center launching this October in Chelsea. Duties include facilitating correspondence, word processing, data input, answering requests for information on our programs & training and social networking on Facebook, Twitter, Linked In etc.
What you’ll learn Working directly with a project coordinator, social media manager and other key staff, this role will introduce you to our daily work. By supporting the organization in various administrative and operational tasks, you will greatly increase your experience and network in the community.
Schedule We’re looking for an intern to work 2-3 days per week for a minimum of four hours per day. College credit may be available with prior approval from career center/college advisor on your campus.
