Rowan Technologies Solutions LLC (RTS) is looking for a creative and agile digital designer to join a team building the most innovative digital learning platform ever created. The selected digital designer will be responsible for creating a learning experience that not only captures and maintains the iBook reader’s interest, but one that also enhances efficient learning. By creating a dynamic and compelling iPad experience through the integration of several mediums (specifically maps, images, video, chapter text, and audio cuts), the digital designer will capture the customer’s general and specific educational ideas concerning the teaching of military history and the evolution of warfare over the ages. The iBook will contain an introduction and 71 chapters, with accompanying maps, photo and graphic images, videos, and interactive widgets.

The selected candidate will lead the iBook’s visual composition and user interface as part of an interdisciplinary teamthat integrates maps, written chapter text, graphic images and video into an interactive iBook experience. The graphic designer will work directly with the interdisciplinary team’s cartographer as well as thecustomer to define the iBook’s requirements, and to provide advice on processes and procedures for optimal visual presentation and user experience. Digital designers are expected to provide the creative input for the final iBook product, including all user interface requirements.

Minimum requirements include a BA, BS in graphic design. A portfolio of five or more digital product designs will be requested from applicants considered for this position.

Experience working with iBooks Author and/or Keynote is highly desirable. Additionally, the candidate should have extensive knowledge and experience of and proficiency in industry standard software (Adobe Flash, Adobe CS5, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, and CorelDraw). The candidate should also have a strong experience in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Respect for image resolution and previous experience with photo retouching would be useful, as would 3D modeling/rendering knowledge, especially with Google Sketch-up.

Competitive candidates must have extensive knowledge of and demonstrated experience ingraphic design principles; composition, color, type, and graphics. An experience in traditional book design and publication would be especially useful as well.

To be considered suitable for employment, applicants must not have used illegal drugs within the last twelve months. The issue of illegal drug use prior to twelve months ago is carefully evaluated during the medical and security processing.

Salary: A highly competitive compensation package based on experience and demonstrated capability.

Location: Flexible, but NYC area preferred.
