The Freshkills Park Project is transforming what was once the world’s largest landfill into the largest landfill to park project in the world.
New York’s new parkland at Fresh Kills combines state of the art ecological restoration techniques with extraordinary settings for recreation,
public art, environmental education programming and scientific research. The Freshkills Park project team includes design professionals,
planners, programming and events staff, and administration.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Under general supervision, with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, plan, implement, coordinate and evaluate public
events and programs for Freshkills Park.
• Develop grant proposals to further the project objectives and fund aspects of park development. Manage the Freshkills Park Grants
portfolio, including research, writing and managing all reporting requirements.
• Organize projects that will capitalize on the unique nature and expanse of the site that may include the implementation of a public art
program, an environmental education program, site defining special events and other projects.
• Cultivate partnerships with organizations that further the goals of the project and support the anticipated programs.
• Oversee community engagement and constituency building program for the park. Supervise tour, education and presentation portfolio of
Park Outreach Coordinator and the recruitment and work program for continuing intern group.
• Manage communications, including the newsletter, the project website and use of social media as appropriate. Act as a liaison with the
Parks Department Press Office. Make public presentations; engage professional and community partners.
• Support the work of the Freshkills Park Development team as needed.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in
an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related
to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience
as described in “1” above.
Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with
over two years of city service. New York City residency required for all other candidates.

PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
1. Educational concentration or professional experience in planning, art, architecture or environmental studies.
2. Experience in project coordination, grants management and multi-faceted community outreach and engagement efforts.
3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
4. Strong communication, interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills.
5. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
6. Valid New York State driver license.
