Software Engineer
Simons Foundation
160 Fifth Ave., New York, NY
The Simons Foundation in New York City is seeking a Software Engineer to fill a full-time position in its informatics team.
The foundation supports a diverse research portfolio in autism, life sciences, mathematics and physics, with an annual budget of $230 million. It offers a vibrant and intellectually stimulating work environment to its staff—currently numbering 75, but steadily growing—in Manhattan’s Flatiron district.
This position provides the potential to make significant contributions to the advancement of autism and neurosciences research by designing, building and maintaining software and databases for use by scientists in the analysis of very large collections of genetic, phenotypic and imaging data.
The successful candidate will likely be a recent recipient (or expected by summer 2014) of a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, or a related field. As an essential member of the informatics team, they will work closely with internal and external software engineers and data analysts—including those in the nascent Simons Center for Data Analysis—and participate in open source software development efforts within the city’s growing community of academic institutions focused on genomics and data science, such as the New York Genome Center.
Experience with a variety of computer languages—such as Python, JavaScript, Java—as well as large, complex data sets and open source projects is desirable.
