Front End Software Engineer
An applied technology innovation team working inside of the new Cornell Tech campus in New York City is looking for a talented front end and generalist software engineer.
About Us
We work with mobile health data streams to create applications for various clinical domains, and we work with personal data streams (digital traces) to create applications for personal self-awareness and analysis. Our team is small and we work like a startup. Our goals are to turn research into stable software projects and to generally be a great software team. Our research focus involves using mobile phones and devices to generate data to which we apply activity recognition, NLP, speech processing, and other machine learning techniques. All of the software we produce is open source.
We have a robust software platform called ohmage for capturing, processing and visualizing data streams and we have also developed a software architecture standard for mHealth data streams and software components. The architecture was created in partnership with the non-profit, Open mHealth.
We follow a semi-agile development and project management process and have a relatively flat management hierarchy.
About You
You should be passionate about your work, friendly, and a good communicator. As with any startup project, our priorities can quickly change, so you should be comfortable with dynamic environments and open source development.
Required skills: JavaScript, jQuery (or equivalent), HTML, CSS, REST techniques and JSON, git and GitHub, design skills (including responsive design, mobile web app design, typography, Photoshop), fluency in at least one other programming language, the ability to clearly test, document, and comment your work, basic Unix sysadmin skills.
Nice to have skills: Java, Android, iOS, the ability to move from client to server to mobile development if necessary, contributions to open source projects, startup experience.
Education: BS in Computer Science or professional equivalent. Prior development experience is essential.
If you think you are a good fit for us and find our projects interesting, please send a note, your resume and some examples of your work to joshua.selsky@cornell.edu.
