[CALL] Understanding Risk 2014 – Creative Challenge

Understanding Risk (UR) is an open and global community of experts with representatives from the public and private sector, multilateral organizations, NGOs, academia and civil society. The UR Forum is the world’s leading conference on improving the assessment and understanding of disaster and climate risks convened by the World Bank’s Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery every two years. Previous events brought together over 500 experts and practitioners from more than 80 countries in Washington DC and Cape Town, and we expect more than 800 participants to attend the event this year in London.

As the 2014 UR Forum approaches, we are hosting a Creative Challenge with the theme: communicating natural hazard risk. We challenge the creative community to come up with creative ways to communicate disaster risk using the visual arts. We would like to invite the students of the Interactive Technology Program to participate in our Creative Challenge.
The top 20 submissions will be exhibited at the 2014 UR Forum to be held at the ExCel London on June 30, 2014. All submissions will be published on the UR website, accompanied by a brief biography and a link to the owners’ website. The winning submission will receive a professional digital SLR and be featured on the UR website, which has 3,000 global members, as well as on the World Bank’s Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery’s website.
The deadline for submissions is on May 15, 2014. More information on the Creative Challenge is available on https://understandrisk.org/page/understanding-risk-challenge.
Again, we would like to invite your students to participate in our Creative Challenge. We would appreciate if you would bring this Creative Challenge to the attention of your students.
Kind regards,
Annegien Tijssen
