The Faculty of Culture and Society
The Faculty of Culture and Society is a multidisciplinary faculty that includes the School of Arts and Communication (K3), the Department of Global Political Studies, the Department of Urban Studies and the Department of Language and Linguistics.
School of Arts and Communication (K3) at the Faculty of Culture and Society
K3 is a multidisciplinary school with approximately 75 employees and 900 full-time students. The school’s education and research deal with media, design, art, culture and society and it plays an important role in the Öresund region’s cultural life. K3 conducts transnational education at the Bachelor’s and Master’s level as well as doctoral programs within the research area New Media, Public Spheres and Forms of Expression. There are degree programs in subjects such as Interaction Design, Media and Communication Studies, Performing Arts Design, English Studies, and Visual Communication. Interaction Design
Malmö University offers a full range of degree programs in Interaction Design, including Bachelor, Magister and Master as well as PhD. The faculty represents a broad scope of profiles, performing at levels of international excellence in areas such as embodied interaction and physical prototyping, design for social change, collaborative media, game studies and game design, and interaction design theory and methodology. Duties/responsibilities
The position involves teaching and research in Interaction Design. The teaching responsibilities may include general Interaction Design classes on basic and advanced levels, as well as specialized classes in physical computing and game design. The research part of the position involves engaging with ongoing developments at the school and University, including the recently inaugurated research center for Internet of Things and People and the intersection area between physical computing and game design/game studies.
Qualifications
In order to qualify for this position, the candidate must have:
- A PhD in Interaction Design or another subject relevant to the direction of the position, or equivalent academic merits or other professional competence of relevance and importance to the post advertised.
- Documented competence in teaching and pedagogical development.
- Documented ability to teach in English.
- Collaboration skills and an ability to engage with actors outside academia.
Selection criteria
Assessment of candidates is based on their degree of proficiency and ability with respect to the qualifications listed above. Scientific and pedagogical qualifications are the two main qualifications, and they are considered equally important in the assessment.
In judging the candidates’ proficiency and ability, the following subject-related criteria will be used.
- Qualifications related to physical computing are more significant qualifications than number 2 and 3 below.
1.1 Within the area of physical computing, qualifications related to applications in game design and/or game studies are considered a particular strength.
1.2 Within the area of physical computing, craft skills in physical prototyping are considered a particular strength.
- Qualifications related to the research area of New Media, Public Spheres and Forms of Expression are considered a strength.
- Pedagogical qualifications in the areas of programming and graphic design are considered strengths.

The position is permanent and full-time, starting at the earliest convenience or by agreement. At Malmö University individual salary negotiations apply. A probationary period may apply.
