[JOB] Media Innovation Associate, Knight Foundation

Position open: Media Innovation Associate

Miami, Fla.

Knight Foundation is the nation’s leading funder of innovative projects in media, civic engagement and the arts. As part of the Media Innovation team, you’ll help craft a new philanthropic program, work closely with our grantees and be part of our work investing in innovative new projects through initiatives like the Knight Prototype Fund and the Knight News Challenge.

We need someone who:

  • Can help identify new approaches and thinking about media and its impact on Americans,
  • Is collaborative by nature, especially when approaching work and planning,
  • Can cultivate and leverage relationships and contacts,
  • Is able to introduce new ideas and people into the work of the foundation,
  • Challenges customary ideas and ways of thinking about how we do our work, and
  • Is able to keep track of complex projects and workflows.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Cultivate a diverse network of relationships with grantees, partners and thought leaders,
  • Manage and consult on a portfolio of existing grants to support activities and drive positive results,
  • Develop grants after performing due diligence on proposals and defining scope of impact, opportunities for change, obstacles, and learning goals, and
  • Enhance your expertise and maintain an awareness of the needs and opportunities within civic institutions and media making organizations.

Knight Foundation continues the work of John S. and James L. Knight, two brothers who founded a company that became the largest newspaper group in the United States. While that firm no longer exists, the brothers’ principles still guide their independent foundation. We support transformational ideas that promote quality journalism, advance media innovation, engage communities and foster the arts. We believe that democracy thrives when people and communities are informed and engaged.

The essential elements for this work are: belief in a vision, courage to push for change, willingness to explore new ideas, expertise to accomplish the work and tenacity to reach the desired results. If you share this passion, we want to hear from you. Tell us what excites you about this opportunity and why you are right for it.
