Job Description
Amazon Publishing is the full-service publishing arm of Amazon. Our mission is to invent new models to connect authors and readers. We’re looking for a Design Technologist who has a comprehensive understanding of web and mobile development and is passionate about creating meaningful reading experiences. The Design Technologist will be part of a small, nimble team dedicated to developing, prototyping, and refining innovative visual storytelling that exist at the nexus of words, images, and technology. They should be an enthusiastic problem solver, capable of approaching challenges from multiple angles and working quickly and collaboratively to bring new ideas to life using an adaptive, data-driven approach. They should have innovative ideas for how to conceive, create, and deliver “best of breed” digital reading experience that deliver on Amazon Publishing’s vision. This role is critical to furthering the quality of the experience we provide our customers, to enhancing our competitive position, and to furthering innovation in the rapidly changing publishing industry.
Responsibilities include:
• Build high-quality, functional prototypes, frameworks, and tools for new, digital reading experiences.
• Produce high-quality, innovative, cohesive deliverables that are customer-focused, simple and intuitive.
• Work collaboratively with editors, designers, product managers, management, internal business partners, and other subject matter experts.
• Participate in the full lifecycle of product development; including ideation, design, development, implementation, and testing.
• Create documentation, requirements, and specifications to support development.
• Collect and analyze data to support further iteration and decision making.
Qualifications
· 3+ years of experience as a front-end developer or web technologist role
· An online portfolio of work demonstrating expertise creating front-end solutions
· Deep understanding and fluent usage across a broad spectrum of technologies including: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (core and frameworks/libraries such as jQuery), XML, JSON, web and server programming, and Responsive/Adaptive Design
· Passion for technology, willingness to dive deep into technical products and commitment to learning and expanding technical knowledge
· Strong creative and conceptual thinker
· Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
· Self-starter with ability to manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment
· Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
· Ability to conceptualize and execute projects, with strong bias for action and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
· BS/MS in computer science or equivalent professional experience
· Passionate reader of ebooks, picture books, comics, transmedia and other forms of and digital content
· Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies
· Experience obtaining and using metrics and analytics
