[INTERN] Barbarian Group Summer Internship Program

At The Barbarian Group we believe that the next big idea can come from anyone including the emerging talent from colleges around world. For this reason, we develop a rigorous internship program each summer. Our highly competitive, 10-week program provides interns with the chance to gain the best hands-on experience in virtually every area of a fast paced digital creative agency. We treat our interns like staff, and if you’ve got the chops, you’ll be given opportunities far beyond your typical internship program.

This year our program will run from Monday, June 8th through Friday, August 14th.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICATION

  • Complete the application form, including the selection of which role you are applying for. You may only choose one.
  • Deadline to apply for Summer 2015 Internships: Friday, April 3, 2015.
  • In addition to the application questions, please complete the one (1) assignment below that is specific to the role you are applying for.

ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT

  • Please answer the following questions:
    • In three short phrases or words – why do you want to intern at the Barbarian Group? If given the opportunity, what would be the one thing you would personally try to focus on, or create?
    • How is digital media evolving the marketing landscape? Is it for the better or the worse? What exactly does the evolution mean for creativity?
    • Provide an example of a company who is successfully using new media to create a meaningful connection with their target audience? Who is the company, what was the media platform, who is the target, why was it successful?
    • You get out of a creative presentation and your client is really unhappy with the work. You feel it was a great presentation with a creative platform that successfully met their business objectives. The client asks you – “What went wrong?” How would you approach the discussion?

ANALYTICS

  • This assignment will be emailed to you once you submit your application.

CREATIVE – ART

  • Please include your portfolio link and/or attachment.

CREATIVE – COPY

  • Please include your portfolio link and/or attachment.

FINANCE

  • No assignment required, but please be sure to attach your resume highlighting your finance/accounting experience.

MEDIA & DISTRIBUTION

  • This assignment will be emailed to you once you submit your application.

PUBLIC RELATIONS

  • The Barbarian Group is launching a client campaign that showcases a new soft drink product. The campaign includes social media roll-out with funny videos starring a celebrity spokesperson.
    Please craft a brief pitch and create a list of 2-3 publications that you would contact,
    explaining the rationale behind your selections.

STRATEGY

  • What is more important for a successful career in planning – being interesting or being right?

TECHNOLOGY

  • Please include your portfolio as well as a sample of code that you’ve written [as links or attachments].

UX

Please audit the user experience of a mobile app you use frequently or find particularly interesting.

  • What user needs does this app address? If this is a branded app, what is the business value?
  • What does this app do well? What features or interaction design elements stand out?
  • How could this app be improved? Where does it fall short?

Please sketch or wireframe 2-5 screens showing how the app you selected might be extended or improved.
