Food Data Journalism Intern
Sage is a new data visualization platform building smarter food labels. One of our core upcoming initiatives is a food data blog. The data blog will do interactive data journalism pieces on important topics in the food world. For example, it is very much in the style of:
Our first piece is a deep data dive into Soylent (and other similar meal replacement concepts), and we have a number of upcoming pieces that we are working on. Our goal is to surface and present important food data in a fun, playful, and approachable way.
We currently have a student from NYU Master’s in Food Studies department and a Registered Dietitian working on these pieces, and we are now looking for an ITP student collaborator to help lead the digital, interactive, and graphic components (working with ITP adjunct & former resident Sam Slover).
Your responsibilities will include:
- Work closely with the Food Studies and Registered Dietitian contributors to define the overall story and narrative for each post
- Help define the overall visual aesthetic for each post
- Help lead asset creation for each post — graphics, illustrations, charts, etc.
- Help define and create user interactions — what happens when the user scrolls? are their interactive pieces embedded throughout the post?
This will be a for-credit internship starting the 1st week of the semester.
If interested, please email Sam (sam@sage.is) stating why you’re interested and links to any of your work.
