EXHIBITIONS DEPARTMENT INTERN – NEW MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART
Description:
The New Museum of Contemporary seeks a Fall/Winter intern for the Exhibitions
Department. The ideal candidate will have a wide range of skills and a strong interest in art,
technology, and design. This internship offers hands-on training in the museum profession
and a comprehensive overview of Museum exhibition operations from the early planning
stages to implementation.
Responsibilities:
This internship will provide the unique opportunity for the chosen candidate to play an
integral role in the production and installation of major exhibitions by contemporary artists
working primarily in digital/new media, with primary tasks including but not limited to
equipment and software research, video formatting and exporting, maintaining and updating
AV inventory, gallery maintenance, assisting with the installation of projectors and monitors,
and assisting with other exhibitions related duties.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate is passionate about contemporary art and skilled with problem solving,
installation, working with new media, video, sound, and general audiovisual applications.
Knowledge of video post-production and Google Sketchup is a plus. Applicants must be
ready to think creatively in unfamiliar situations and be prepared for hands on experience.
To Apply:
The internship will run November 2015 through February 2016, and candidates will not be
considered for shorter durations. A minimum of 16 hours per week is required (two full days
at 8 hours/day). The final schedule will be determined with the department
supervisor. Internships at the New Museum are unpaid, however academic credit is
available to those who qualify.
